BIOGRAPHY
Born in Belgium and a Quebecer by choice, Cecile Buysse received her Bachelor's degree in Visual Arts from Concordia University in 1991 where she studied painting with Guido Molinari. Between 1989 and 1996, she participated in several studio workshops with T. Hopkins and Seymour Segal at the Saidye Bronfman Centre, as well as a workshop on silkscreen techniques at the Centre design & impression textile (centre for textile design and printing) in Montreal. Cécile has been painting for more than 20 years. She was a member of the Conseil de la peinture du Québec (Painters' Council of Quebec) in 1992 and 1993 and a member of the Regroupement des artistes en arts visuels from 1998 to 2004.
THEMES/SUBJECTS
The artist explains her artistic journey: "From the beginning, painting, for me, was pleasure, a pretext to make colours vibrate spontaneously. It was both abstract and playful; abstract because it was necessary, it came from inside of me, it answered, and still answers today, a strong need for liberty and pleasure..."
TECHNIQUE
Oil is applied "alla prima" with a palette knife, in thick, sensual layers. The work is at once spontaneous and controlled, pleasure and quest, violence and softness.
